European-style market to replace food store in Third Ward

The Benelux Grand Cafe and Market will open around the end of the year in a building kitty-corner from the Milwaukee Public Market that formerly held the Good Harvest natural food store. Diablos Rojos, operator of Trocadero, Cafe Hollander and Cafe Centraal, is the owner of the new cafe. Benelux will have rooftop and outdoor dining, according to co-owner Eric Wagner.

Benelux Grand Cafe and Market coming to Third Ward

This has been a rumor on the streets of the Third Ward for the past few months, but today it's official. Diablos Rojos (Trocadero, Cafe Hollander and Cafe Centraal) will open Benelux Grand Cafe and Market at the former Good Harvest location at the Milwaukee Public Market's building across from the main Market at 346 N. Trocadero retools its look, menu and attitude

Like a grand dame, a grand cafe can use a little updating, nipping and tucking eventually. That's what Trocadero, which calls itself Milwaukee's grand cafe, did in spring: The restaurant on the lower east side closed for six weeks, changed its menus and switched around the interior. Now the bar and the main entrance again are at the wedge-shaped building's front, where they started when Trocadero opened nine years ago. The bar, like the dining room, is casual but warm, with dark woods, dark-metal lighting and blond, Cream City brick walls. Trocadero Re-Opens April 6!

Back in early February we announced that Trocadero was closing its doors following a weekend of special Valentine's Day-themed events to undergo a major renovation. Great news, Milwaukeeans.
